What is Local News to Me?
Local news refers to the coverage of events by the news, in a local context that would not be of same interest of another locality. Some key features of local newsrooms include regional politics, weather, business, and human interest stories. Local news readership has been declining in recent years, according to recent studies. As more and more television consumers tap into streamed programming, local news viewership is beginning to decline.
Ben Fordham is a award winning Australian journalist who now hosts 2GB's breakfast show, following Alan Jones' retirement from radio. He began working for the breakfast program, in June 2020 after he spent a decade as 2GB'S Drivetime host where he consistently topped the ratings.
Ben started working in radio at age 15 as a work experience kid on the Alan Jones Breakfast show at 2UE. This is when Ben immediately feel in love with broadcasting. As he completed his final years in high school, he worked weekends on the Continuous Call Team hosted by Ray Hadley.
Ben's talents have been recognized at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards, being awarded Best Metropolitan Tal Presenter five different times (2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019). He was voted Best Metropolitan Current Affairs Presenter in 2017. Ben became the youngest reporter in history to win a Walkley award double in the same year.
On one of his radio lives' he mentioned the fundraising of two young girls. Best friends Choe and Tirion had raised over $150,000 for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.
The two friends were on Fordham's live detailing their plans to raise funds for ovarian cancer research, as Tirion, age 11, battles stage 4 cancer. Chloe and Tirion made an appearance on 2GB Sydney as Tirion made the big chop.
The donations had reached over $30,000 while they were on air. Since then the donations jumped to $140,000 in just a few days time. After Chloe shaved off her hair that is when the donations hit $155,000. Donations are still being made click here.
